Do you need to make one or more backup of your data?

several installed programsWe previously explained in this blog how to make a backup of the hard disk to save the installed programs. This can be useful in case we are going to migrate to another computer, or we want to prevent the hard disk from crashing. The usual practice is to make a backup copy before formatting and then install the image on the new computer.

However, is this what we should do to increase the security of our programs? what happens if the site we have backed up is lost, damaged, or affected by a virus while we are working?

In this article, we would like to suggest you an alternative to having several backup copies of installed programs and files.. And not only of the programs, but of all the files you work with on a daily basis.

Making several backup copies: the best alternative to avoid risks.

Most people usually do not make any backup of their hard disk until they want to change their computer. On the other hand, if we want to work safely with our PC or that of our company, it is imperative that we work with a security system with the highest redundancy and that allows a faster and safer recovery.

  • To make an image of the disk every certain time: we have already explained how to make an image. You should save it on an installation disk, not on the drive itself, because if a virus enters, the image could be affected. For example, the copy can be made once a month, or every three months, to make sure that you have updated versions of the programs.
  • Use a remote online backup: if we have marked very specific configurations for the programs, and we change them from time to time, the best security option is to use a backup service that makes an automatic daily copy to ensure that they remain the same.
  • Distribute the programs on several computers. In companies, when working legally, you buy programs with several licenses for each of your computers. This way, if you work in a network, you can share the programs on a computer identical to the one you are reinstalling.
  • Have your own servers. Another alternative for backups, which is much more expensive and is only carried out by companies with a lot of storage needs, is to have your own server infrastructure and set up a backup system so that everything done on your company’s computers is backed up on the servers.

What other alternatives do you suggest for backing up installed software?
