Why you should backup your files
Forgetting something as important as having backup copies of our files saved can lead to difficulties. Many times we think that nothing bad will happen, but these things happen without warning. Sometimes we have been trying to fix one problem and, instead of getting it fixed, we have messed up something else. In the end, therefore, it becomes imperative that even in the event that our computer files were lost, we could easily recover them through a cloud backup, an external hard drive, or whatever.
If you think that this problem does not suit you and nothing will ever be deleted, let me tell you about some dangers in which not making backups can cost you dearly and also about the reasons why files can be deleted or lost. Always look for the best protection for your computer, but also make sure you have an ace up your sleeve in case of failure.
Causes of files being deleted or lost.
- You lose access to Windows. Occasionally, a computer may have trouble logging into Windows, even trying to log in securely. It happens sometimes when we have terminated system processes that should have been maintained. In these cases, you would have to reinstall the operating system. That implies that everything you have stored there would be erased if you cannot or do not know how to recover your hard drive.
- A hardware error on your hard drive. Another problem is that the hard drive crashes at the hardware level and you can’t recover what’s inside. In this case, it doesn’t do you much good to have copies hosted on your own hard drive.
- A virus damages or deletes your files. If the virus wipes out your files, even though you can recover your computer by formatting it or running an antivirus, there will be files that you can no longer recover if they have been damaged. Backup is safer than any recovery program.
Risks to your business if you don’t have backups
- That you lose your company’s information. Suppose you have business information stored on your computer. For example, history of invoices, suppliers, delivery notes. In case your computer has a problem and you lose this information, some problems may occur. Therefore, it is always advisable to work with a cloud-based business management software rather than an in-house program.
- That you lose money. Another risk is that you lose money. For example, a whole day’s work is thrown away. That means delays, loss of backlog, and maybe even loss of customers. It’s also time you’ve lost, since those employees have been working for nothing for files that no longer exist or can’t be retrieved.
Have you ever found yourself in these situations? We wish you hadn’t, but if you have, tell us in the comments if you’ve had any problems involving lost or damaged files.
